There are advantages and disadvantages to teaching in each of these. With public school, you’ll have fewer lessons to prepare each week, you’ll finish work early in the afternoon, there are more holidays, and they’re generally less likely to screw you over. Some disadvantages are that you’ll have to start early in the morning, you’ll have 25 to 40 students per class, you’ll only see those students once or twice a week, and you’ll have to spend a couple of hours a day desk-warming. Hagwon advantages are that you can sleep late since classes start after school, you often get paid a bit more than public schools, all your lessons are usually set out for you, and you’ll have small classes. Disadvantages are that hagwons may decide to fire you at the 11th month to avoid paying you your bonuses, classes end late at night, parents and your boss will often complain that your students aren’t learning enough, and you’ll be teaching more hours than at a public school. There’s no perfect job, so you’ll have to weigh the advantages and disadvantages before you decide.
