I heard there’s an HIV and drugs test. That seems quite invasive?

Answer #1

It’s neither invasive nor anything to worry about.

The health check is quite simple. Chest x-ray, blood test, urine test, blood pressure and eye test.

If you fail the drug test then you probably shouldn’t be working with kids anyway. If you fail the HIV test, then I’d imagine you’d be more preoccupied with that result rather than teaching.

If you are HIV positive you will not be allowed to teach and will also have to leave the country. Same goes for the drug test too. Blood pressure and cholestrol is not really an issue, you might just want to keep an eye on your diet for a while should the results of those be poor.

It’s simply required to do if you want to work in Korea. If you think it’s too invasive, then you should probably look at teaching somewhere else.
